Penile Curvature
What is Penile Curvature?
Penile curvature is when an erect penis is not straight but curved up or down, to the right or to the left.
Why Does Penile Curvature Occur?
Penile curvatures can be congenital or can be caused by some diseases, surgical developments or traumas in the future.
Penile curvature due to Peyronie's disease is most frequently encountered in later ages. It develops due to calcification that occurs between the blood vessel that provides hardening and the outer sheath. In Peyronie's disease, which usually occurs after the age of 50, first pain and then deformity are experienced over time. Though the cause of Peyronie's disease is not known exactly, diabetes is thought to trigger this condition. Apart from this, deformity and curvature of the penis may occur as a result of surgical interventions for the penis.
What is Penile Curvature Surgery?
Surgical applications are fundamental in the treatment of congenital penile curvature and penile curvature caused by advanced Peyronie's disease.
In the surgical treatment of penile curvature using the Plication Technique, stitches (plication stitches) are made on the penis to apply traction force to the opposite side of the curvature and the curvature is corrected. In advanced cases, the graft (patch) or ready-made graft (patches) obtained from the leg veins is integrated into the plaque areas formed in the penis. In the technique with graft, an elongation is also obtained in the penis.
In the treatment of penile curvature, there is no other application other than these two procedures. Filling materials, exercises, correction tools, as well as giving the desired result, may impair body health and should not be used.
